Visita Iglesia: Immaculate Conception Cathedral

From Christ the King Seminary Chapel, we then went to Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Cubao. I've always wanted to go inside this church whenever we would pass by Lantana St. It was kind of funny that it was my first time to enter this church, considering the fact that we just live within Cubao area.

Built in the 1950s by the priest of Society of the Divine Word, the Immaculate Conception became a cathedral when the Diocese of Cubao was established. The Diocese also runs a school affiliated with it named the Immaculate Conception Cathedral School, which is located beside the church itself.

Arches and banners characterizing romanesque architecture

The interior of the church reminds me of knights and the medieval times because of the flags/banners displayed along both sides and its romanesque features. Unlike the first two churches that we visited, the altar of the Immaculate Conception was not set up for any program. I'm thinking maybe the reason for this is the Pilgrimage Church status of the first two churches. Nevertheless, there are still a lot of people doing their Stations of the Cross here.

Old man walking on his knees towards the altar
This old man caught my attention while we were sitting on one of the pews waiting for my mother in law. He really tried his best to reach the altar while walking on his knees, even with his legs visibly shaking and his upper body swaying as if he would stumble, just pausing for a few seconds to regain his balance.

After our visit here, we decided to have our lunch since the two boys were starting to have tantrums. Later on it was decided that only my mother in law, her assistant and hubby would go on with the Visita Iglesia and that they would just drop us home because the boys were already sleepy. Considering this was our first time to do Visita Iglesia with the kids and we were able to cover 3 churches within the better part of the morning, I already consider it a great feat for my sons. Hopefully, next year we will be able to finish all seven churches on our list. :D
