Dinner at Diner's Café: Tagaytay Restaurants

It started raining as soon as we left the hotel to have our dinner at Diner's Café. For us, this is the best place to try bulalo in Tagaytay. It's been more than 5 years the last time we've been here that the place looked quite different from what I remember (the old place looked carinderia-like, but this one looked like an improved canteen). I'm not sure whether they actually transferred to a new location or they just had the restaurant renovated.

Diner's Café one rainy night

This small restaurant had been around since the mid-'80s and has not only served the best bulalo since then, they specialize in kare-kare and seafood as well.

While waiting for our orders

Since bulalo and kare-kare were their specialty dishes, we didn't have to think twice about ordering those. However, taking into account Alec's preferences in food, we also ordered daing na bangus for him and Caleb. We also ordered mango shakes for our drinks.

Bulalo good for 4-5 persons

Kare-kare good for 3-4 persons
The bulalo still tasted great, as well as the kare-kare. However, they were now more pricey than I remember, specially the daing which was even more expensive than their kare-kare. Also, they have now started charging an additional 5% for service fee. Our total bill reached Php1,300 just for the following:
1 bulalo (Php400)
1 daing na bangus (Php270)
1 kare-kare (Php250)
6 rice (Php150, Php25 each)
3 mango shakes (Php195, Php65 each)

I was a bit disappointed by our most recent dining experience here. We were made to wait for more than 10 minutes before our orders were completed, with the daing na bangus for the children being the last to arrive (to think that it wasn't even reheated). They seem to be quite understaffed even though the place wasn't full. Hopefully, the management can improve on this.
