Puerto Princesa City Tour: Mitra's Ranch and the rest

Day 1: Puerto Princesa City Tour

Mitra's Ranch

By the time we were done with the zipline activities at Irawan Eco-Park, it was raining quite heavily so we just breezed through the remaining stops of the City Tour. Our next stop was at the Rancho Sta. Monica or Mitra's Ranch, as it is commonly called. Basically, it's a ranch owned by former Senator Ramon Mitra in the uphill area of Sta. Monica.

We didn't have much chance to explore the area because we never got past the driveway. However, on better-weathered days, guests can have picnics here, enjoy the great view of Palawan and the Honda Bay, go horseback riding or even ride its zipline.

Baker's Hill

From Mitra’s Ranch, our next stop was Baker’s Hill, which can also be found along the same street. This seems to be the most famous bakery in Puerto Princesa. According to our tourist guide, it’s the only place where tourists can buy baked goodies to bring home as pasalubongs to their loved ones. We loved their chocolate crinkles and hopia, as well as their brownies, which were soft, moist and tasty.

Aside from the bakery, it also has theme park-like picnic grounds with several cartoon character statues scattered around and play areas for kids. There are other restaurants within the grounds as well. We were not able to roam around the place nor take pictures because of the heavy rains at that time. It was also getting a bit late so we had to hurry and finish the City tour.

Tiangge Tiangge Pasalubong and Souvenir Center

After Baker's Hill, we decided to skip the Palawan Butterfly Garden (since we probably would not see any butterflies flying in the rain) and moved on to buy souvenirs. We were taken to Tiangge Tiangge Pasalubong and Souvenir Center. Here you can find all sorts of stuff: rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, clothing, bags and food. Palawan is known to produce cheap genuine pearls (freshwater variety) and the more expensive ones (South Sea pearls). You can alo buy cashew nuts as pasalubogs here.

Since it was really getting late and we were really tired, we decided to cut short our City Tour and just visit the remaining stops the next day (Plaza Cuartel, Baywalk and . Instead we had Kuya Abet, our tourist guide, drop us at Jo's Chicken Inato, which is just within walking distance from Aniceto's Pension House.
Here we ordered their Jo's Chicken Inato meal with iced tea. Nothing really special about this food, I mean we can also have this in Manila. It's just that it's 8pm already and we were too lazy to eat at Kinabuch's or Ballinsasayaw Grill so we settled for this. Yeah, lame excuse, I know we can already hear our beds at teh pension house calling out our names during that time.
